Pulgar-Vidal has 35 years of experience in environmental law and policy and served as Minister of the Environment of Peru (2011 to 2016) and President of the Twentieth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP20) in 2014.

I’m honoured to be invited to serve as a senior ambassador with the Coalition for Urban Transitions (CUT). Addressing the opportunities to reduce emissions in cities is key to tackling the climate crisis. CUT’s evidence-based approach to developing relevant tools for national governments is well aligned with the work we are doing at WWF. We aim to measure, support and amplify climate actions in cities globally through programmes such as the One Planet City Challenge and the Alliances for Climate Action. I hope to be able to make a significant contribution to this worthy effort.

Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, WWF Global Lead Climate & Energy

Pulgar-Vidal was the Executive Director of the Peruvian Society for Environmental Law, an influential institution in Latin America. He has a law degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, where he is a professor, and has completed studies for a master’s degree in Business Law at the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas. He is a board member of Forest Trends, Amazon Conservation Association and Peruvian Society of Environmental Law and a member of the Assembly of the World Wide Fund for Nature – Colombia.

We are honoured to welcome Manuel Pulgar-Vidal to the Coalition. His experience at the forefront of climate law and diplomacy gives him a unique view of the challenges facing the climate movement in 2020. We appreciate his guidance and insights as we work towards COP26 in Glasgow next year. We look forward to working with Manuel to encourage national governments to put cities at the heart of the economic stimulus packages in the wake of COVID-19.
